Technique Post

Technique Post

Hi, information from Satu on how to decoupage with paper napkins
Below is link to You Tube  decoupage with paper napkins, may be of some interest.

Ann, you asked about the napkin technique, you can find lots of instructions with google, but I'll
write something here as well since I've taken some pictures of the process couple of years ago.
I'll email this to all, maybe it interests others as well. Forgive any language mistakes.

You have to peel the very top-layer where the picture is, there are 2-4 layers on a napkin.
The top layer is VERY thin. If you want a specific detail, it's better to cut it out before peeling(picture1)
The colour of the base of ATC strongly effects the final result, napkin is too thin to cover which is good,
since such extra areas around the picture (see angel I'm peeling) almost disappear when varnished.
In this picture you can see my fabric ATCs behind my hands.

Then you have to have glue varnish for decoupage (several manufacturers), it's easy to find in craft-shops,
not expensive. There's one for fabric as well, I use decoupage tex on fabric ATCs.

First spread a thin layer of varnish on your ATC or on the area desired.
Then carefully lay the peeled image on it, you have to succeed the first time.
Then spread a thin layer of varnish on to the image heading from the centre towards the edges.
Don't rub, it is very fragile at this stage. Leave to dry, or use hair dryer.
When dry, it's possible to add another napkin image on top of the old one.

When completely dry, usually the card needs to be under some books overnignt, the card tends to roll a little.
Fabric varnish needs to be ironed.

Finished angel fabric ATC with napkin image.

Vicky, my life, my family and my art

Hi
My name is Vicky, mother of 5 children, grandmother of 1, Tommy and I  live on a property out west in NSW with my husband Robert. The property has been in the family for well over 100 years.
Profile--will add more information here.

My family. Daughter Vicki, eldest girl. Daughter Sarah, youngest girl. Yep, that is me in the hat.
Groom is my eldest, Damien and then there is my lovely daughter in-law Renee. My husband Robert, middle daughter Amy and then the gorgeous youngest son, Andrew.

Well, looks like Damien took after his mother! 2 peas in a pod.

Poppy and Tommy

Recent picture of Tommy and Teddy.

Robert at work.

Sample of my painting. I have used a mouth atomiser for the background and I have used stencils of daisies I cut from paper for the illusion of background flowers. I have also used fresh leaves for stencils, painted flowers on top using Jo Sonja Acrylics and last of all I have painted geranium leaves and used them as stamps to build up the leaves. I have such a lot of fun creating these pieces.

More samples of paintings on canvas use the same technique as above.

Trading Frenzy For JAV And Friends.
Sorry for the delay on finalizing structure of the current swap. We have been trying to think of the fairest way for all to operate the trade. Hopefully the ideas submitted shall suit everyone. Please remember that this swap idea is a trial, a different option but not permanent structure for JAV. Hopefully it shall inspire us all to create more than one card and trade with enthusiasm. We have allowed more than 1 day for trade request due to different time zones for our friends. Also, we have tried to think of a fair way to handle Sue’s cards as she will be away and have a suggestion. Instead of finishing the date of this swap at the end of March, we will finalise it in April.
Rules Of Play, February, March and April Swap 2011
1, closing date for lodgement of cards is 8th of April, 20112, Trading request for 3 days from 9th of April to 11th of April3, Acceptance of Trade Offer is from 12th of April until 14th of April4, When you have decided who you would like to send your ATCs too, do a group email. List name or number of card and who this card will be sent too. Vicky will put list on blog. Cards marked as swapped asap. 5, After swapping is closed then there will be a free swap for what cards that remains.
Rule 1, please send pictures of cards to Vicky by closing date so she can put pictures on JAV Blog Rule 2, go to blog. Choose your card or cards you wish to request. Email private request to whoever made the cards, request card . Suggestion, give this person a second or third choice if possible. Please keep a list of what you are trading for, to try and avoid confusion.Rule 3, Please ignore all request made prior to official starting date. At closing of swap please send out group email with list of cards and recipients. Please feel free to do private emails during trading time asking about possibility or status of swap.Rule 4, If you have a card that has been heavily requested, please consider sending email to friends that have also requested card offering them their second or third choice.
Basically girls, do as many cards as you want. Post pictures. During trading time request cards, keep track of where your cards are going, post to correct person after trade closes. Try not to promise one card to more than one person. It is your free choice who you send cards too. Have fun with it and go with the flow. Do not get sad if you do not always get first card of your choice as there are bound to be some cards that create a lot of interest. Hopefully, this will work. Fingers crossed. If you can think of anything I have missed, please email me.I hope to send an email out saying trading starts now, to deal with different times around the world. [If I remember]
